Tuition Amount (2024-2025)

Do you have the Dutch nationality or an EU/EEA nationality, or the nationality of Switzerland or Suriname?

The following countries are Member States of the European Union/European Economic Area (EU/EEA): Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lichtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, the United Kingdom.
When tuition fees are calculated, students of Surinamese or Swiss nationality are considered equivalent to students from a Member State of the European Economic Area. A student who does not hold the nationality of an EEA country is also subject to the nationality requirement if he/she is a family member (pursuant to Directive 2004/38/EC) of EU citizens living in the Netherlands or if he/she holds a residence permit on the basis of which he/she qualifies for a student grant/loan pursuant to the Student Finance Act 2000 (Wet studiefinanciering 2000).

Did you come to The Netherlands as a refugee and do you have a valid residence permit for the Netherlands on 1 September 2022, with one of the purposes for residence specified in the explanation?

The following residence permits entitle you to the Statutory Tuition Fee, if you comply with the other conditions.

  • Regular for indefinite period (type II);
  • Asylum for fixed period (type III);
  • Asylum for indefinite period (type IV);
  • Long-term EU residents (type V);
  • Article 50TEU;
  • Regular for fixed period (type I) with one of the following purposes for residence:
    • single minor foreign national;
    • residence for adoption or as foster child;
    • readmission;
    • residence as a foreign national who, through no fault of his/her own, cannot leave the Netherlands;
    • on the base of a ministerial decree;
    • prosecution of trafficking in human beings (B9);
    • special regulation 2007 (the general amnesty);
    • in association with temporary humanitarian reasons or associated non-humanitarian reasons;
    • children's amnesty;
    • continued residence as a result of one of the above restrictions;
    • on the grounds of the Aliens Act Implementation Guidelines B2;
    • on the grounds of Article 8 of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms (ECHR);
    • residence in connection with family formation (subject to certain conditions);
    • addition to family (subject to certain conditions);
    • residence with family member (subject to certain conditions).
    • scientific research done according to the Directive 2005/71/EG. This directive was repealed on 23 May 2018 and was consolidated by the Directive (EU) 2016/801, which is why it is no longer mentioned in the eligibility assistant of the lifelong learning credit;
    • research within the meaning of the Directive (EU) 2016/801;
    • a European Blue Card;
    • residence as an economically inactive long-term EU resident or wealthy foreign national;
    • residence in the context of the pilot accommodation scheme for non-EU students from Aachen by meeting the requirements to apply for naturalisation.
